Technical Advisory – Using the USB-XLR

Hello,

Alert Player customers, Checking in to see how everyone is making out with their installations.

There is an audio input mismatch condition that occurs between certain studio equipment XLR hook ups to our Alert Player using the USB-XLR adapter.

Using a 20 dB H Pad, the USB-XLR adapter will pass thru +4dBu without the need for jack-mixer, simplifying setup. The Alert messages are as loud as the source input. +4dB in and +4dB out is within spec for the PCM2902. PCM2902 seems to be internally boosting by +20dB, which is why using a -20dB pad will still output audio at +4dB levels.

Solution is to attenuate the input XLR using an off the shelf inline attenuator. Some stations have already used equipment to further set the input levels. Local access to a electronics shop may not be possible, especially in remote northern communities.

To assist stations, we will ship to any of our customers, upon request to support@openbroadcaster.pro a pair of these 20Db Balanced XLR Attenuators for each alerting unit purchased, free of charge including cost of shipping.

Be sure to check USB-XLR Support Page for up to date instructions.
